How This Case Works

Your job is to use the 19 clues below to find the killer's name by process of elimination. Read a clue, then work through the chapters, crossing off every suspect who does not fit it. A "page" always means the book's overall page count, running continuously from Chapter 1 straight through to Chapter 20 — so Chapter 1 opens on page 1, and each new chapter picks up right where the last one left off. Apply all 19 clues, and exactly one name, on one page, in one chapter, will be left standing.

The 19 Clues

1. The killer's name is on a page with a repeated name.
2. The killer's name is after the chapter that includes 8 flower names.
3. The killer's name appears in an odd-numbered chapter.
4. The killer's name does not contain the letter S.
5. The killer's name starts with a letter in the range A–M.
6. The killer's name does not contain the letter Y.
7. The killer's name starts with a consonant.
8. The killer's name appears in a chapter with 5 spices.
9. The killer's name does not contain the letter B.
10. The killer's name does not contain the letter H.
11. The killer's name does not contain the letter E.
12. The killer's name does not contain the letter R.
13. The killer's name is printed in an odd-numbered row on its page.
14. The killer's name is printed in an odd-numbered column on its page.
15. The killer's name is in the top half of its page.
16. The killer's name is more than 5 letters long.
17. The killer's name ends in a consonant.
18. The killer's name is on the left half of its page.
19. There is an 8-letter name no more than 8 names away from the killer.
